About our privacy policy

Your privacy is of the utmost importance to Options for Homes. We have outlined our Privacy Policy below so you can feel secure about any private information that you provide to us.

This Privacy Statement has been adopted by Options for Homes and applies to all co-ops that have contracted Options for Homes as it’s development manager (collectively referred to as “Options”). This following demonstrates Options’ commitment to the protection of individual privacy, and discloses the personal information collection, use and disclosure practices of Options for Homes and all connected co-ops.

For the purposes of this Statement, “personal information” means information that is personally identifiable to individuals. “Non-identifiable information” means information that cannot be associated with or traced back to specific individuals with any certainty.

How and when Options collects personal information

The Options for Homes website, along with those of any affiliated co-ops, does not automatically gather any personal information from you, such as your name, phone number, or e-mail address. Options collects personal information from individuals on a voluntary basis through surveys, contest entry forms, registration forms, questionnaires and transaction documents both online and offline. The personal information includes contact information (for example, name, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number), demographic information, household information, preference information and transaction-related information. This information will be used to responds to you and help you get the information you requested

Any personal information that you do provide is managed according to the principles of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada).

Use of personal information by Options

The collection of such information enables us to develop and customize our products and services to better meet the needs and preferences of customers. We may contact individuals by electronic mail, regular mail or telephone for any of the purposes detailed above.

We may use your personal information:

  • to respond to your requests for information,
  • to communicate with you,
  • to inform you about offer products, and/or special offers,
  • to conduct, process and complete transactions with you, and
  • to provide you with products or services that you request or that are part of our ongoing service with you

Disclosure of personal information by Options

Options does not sell, rent or trade personal information that it collects. Options will not knowingly disclose personal information to any third parties except in the following circumstances:

When Options has received consent to do so or under limited circumstances specifically described at such time as personal information is collected;

When Options, in good faith, believes the law permits or requires such disclosure;

To companies affiliated and associated companies with Options, such as individual co-ops, and only for the purposes described in the section above. These affiliated and associated companies and their respective employees are restricted from using the personal information for any other purpose other than as described in the section above.

To its agents, professional advisors, promotional and marketing agencies, and to any other third parties to complete transactions, to process data and to service customers. These third parties and their respective employees are only provided with such personal information as is necessary to perform the services for which they have been contracted and are restricted from using the personal information for any other purpose other than as described in the section above.

Retention of personal information by Options

Personal transactional information will be made anonymous and/or destroyed when such personal information is no longer required for the purposes stated in this Privacy Statement or other statutory requirements. However, as a non-profit we are committed to understanding our social impact and may retain personal information of purchasers, such as name, contact and basic details of their purchase, to be used in future research and analysis of our social impact.

Collection, use and disclosure of non-identifiable information

Options collects and uses non-identifiable information to assess the effectiveness of web site content and traffic, and developing featured programs and content that will be of interest to visitors. Aggregate non-identifiable information is used to perform statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behaviour of individuals, and to measure demographics and interests. Visitor information is not disclosed to anyone except Options personnel who need the information for legitimate business purposes, for example responding to a request.

Use of cookies by Options

Options uses cookies to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interactions to offer better site experiences as well as enable social media connectivity through buttons and/or plugins on this site for users to connect with their social networks in various ways. Options may also use trusted third-party services that track this information on our behalf.

Our website may contain links to other web sites. Options provides such links only as a convenience, and the inclusion in this website of any link does not imply endorsement, investigation, or verification by Options of the linked web site(s) or information contained in such linked web site(s). Safeguarding personal information

Options has taken measures to protect the security and confidentiality of personal information as are appropriate in the circumstances. Personal information is stored in confidential databases and locations in the Greater Toronto Area. These sites have appropriate security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of personal information under the care and control of Options. Any information transmitted via the Internet, however, may be intercepted by third parties. Options does not assume any liability for interception, alteration or misuse of information transmitted over the Internet. Options employees are restricted from using and disclosing personal information collected by Options other than in accordance with this Statement.

Accessing personal information

Individuals have the right to access, verify and correct or amend all their personal information collected by Options. We believe that it is imperative that personal information be as accurate, complete and up to date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is collected. We encourage individuals to amend inaccuracies and make corrections in their personal information collected by Options as often as necessary by contacting the Privacy Officer, Kellie James at kelliej@optionsforhomes.ca.

How to file a complaint

To file a complaint with Options concerning the collection, use and/or disclosure of personal information, please send an email to the Privacy Officer, Kellie James at kelliej@optionsforhomes.ca. All complaints will be. investigated by the Options Privacy Officer in a timely fashion. Individuals will be notified of the outcome of the investigation of complaints clearly and promptly and will be notified of any relevant steps taken or to be taken because of a complaint.

The choice to provide personal information or to receive certain information and promotional materials

Individuals always have the choice whether or not they wish to supply Options with personal information. Individuals wishing to “opt-out” of receiving certain informational and promotional materials from Options and its affiliated co-ops or who otherwise object to the collection, use and disclosure policies as provided under this Privacy Statement, are asked to contact reception@optionsforhomes.ca.

Opt-out opportunities are also provided in other circumstances such as in certain promotional mailings. Individuals are reminded that the decision to withhold personal information or to object to the use and/or disclosure of personal information as provided in this Privacy Statement or in any agreement between such individuals and Options, may, in certain instances, limit their ability to complete purchases of condos sold through Options and limit their ability to access or take advantage of certain promotions and features.
